The short version
- Grove is a personal tool for keeping track of the people in your life. Your notes stay yours, and you can delete everything from Settings any time.
- We use Google's Gemini to turn your voice notes into structured notes. Full details in the Privacy Policy.
- Grove is for you alone — no social features, no sharing, no ads, no selling your data.
- You need to be 13 or older, and you're responsible for respecting the privacy of the people you add to your grove.
- The rest of this page is the careful version. We've tried to write it like a human, but some of it has to sound lawyerly.
A quick welcome
Hi — thanks for planting a grove with us. This page is the agreement between you and Grove: how the app works, what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you. If something feels confusing, email hello@findgrove.com and a real person will answer.
By creating an account or using Grove, you're agreeing to these Terms. "Grove," "we," "us," and "our" mean the team behind findgrove.com. "You" and "your" mean you.
1. What Grove does
Grove is a personal relationship journal. Everything Grove does today:
- Voice notes. Record a short note after a conversation; Grove transcribes it and pulls out structured details about the person.
- AI extraction. Grove sends voice-note transcripts to Google's Gemini (
gemini-2.5-flash) to turn them into structured contacts, preferences, and follow-ups ("seedlings"). - Reminders. Grove shows you a short morning list — the "Daily Canopy" — with birthdays, people you haven't spoken to in a while, and seedlings coming due. You can pause reminders from the top-right of the Daily Canopy.
- Relationship health. Grove labels each person as Thriving or Needs Water based on how often you've been in touch. You set the rhythm.
Grove is currently a single-user app in beta. It does not offer messaging between users, sharing, a social feed, a marketplace, or paid subscriptions.
2. Eligibility
You need to be 13 or older to use Grove. You'll confirm this at sign-up. If you're under 13, please don't create an account — and if you're a parent whose under-13 child has created one, email hello@findgrove.com and we'll delete it.
If you're under 18, we assume you have a parent or guardian's permission. Where local law requires a higher minimum age or parental consent, that law applies. You also need the legal capacity to enter this agreement where you live.
3. Your account
Accounts are handled through Clerk, our authentication provider. You agree to give us accurate information (a working email is enough — no legal name or DOB), keep your credentials private, and tell us at hello@findgrove.com if your account is compromised. What happens under your login counts as yours.
You can close your account any time from Settings > Account.
4. Your data & your privacy rights
Your notes, contacts, and voice recordings are yours. Grove doesn't own them, sell them, or train AI models on them. We process them only to run the features in Section 1.
To run Grove, you give us a limited, revocable license to store your data, process it through our sub-processors (listed in the Privacy Policy), and show it back to you. That license ends when you delete the data or your account.
Depending on where you live, you have rights to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data. The full explanation lives in the Privacy Policy.
About the people in your grove. When you add someone, you're storing personal information about them. You're responsible for having a reasonable basis to keep notes, not storing sensitive categories (health, political views, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, immigration status, criminal history) without clear reason, and deleting their information if they ask you to.
5. AI features
Grove uses Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash to extract structured information from your voice notes. When you record a voice note, we send the transcript to Google for processing. Gemini is contractually prohibited from using your data to train its models and from keeping it long-term.
Our engineering team also uses Anthropic's Claude (via the Claude API and Claude Code) as a general debugging assistant. We only share your data with Claude when it's necessary to diagnose a specific issue, we use the minimum needed, and we mask or anonymise identifying details (names, email addresses, contact identifiers) wherever doing so doesn't break the investigation. We don't keep local copies of what we send. Our agreement with Anthropic prohibits training on that content and limits retention. See the Privacy Policy for more.
AI is useful, but not perfect. Grove's AI features can misremember, misattribute, or hallucinate. Always double-check anything important. Grove is not professional advice of any kind — not therapy, counselling, medical, legal, or financial. Grove's AI does not make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
You can edit or delete any AI-generated note from that person's profile.
6. Acceptable use
Grove is a gentle tool for real relationships. You agree not to:
- Use Grove to break the law where you live or where you're using it.
- Store information about another person in order to stalk, harass, harm, extort, manipulate, or deceive them.
- Upload unlawful, abusive, hateful, or child-sexualising content.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or exploit bugs instead of reporting them to hello@findgrove.com.
- Interfere with other users' accounts or data.
7. Fair use of Grove's AI
AI calls cost real money every time. You agree not to use scripts, bots, or automated tools against Grove's APIs except through the official app or with our written permission; submit content at a volume no human would generate; or craft requests designed to run up our AI costs or exhaust rate limits.
We apply reasonable rate limits and payload caps. If you hit them in normal use, we'll tell you clearly. If we see abuse, we may slow down, suspend, or terminate the account without notice.
8. Data retention & deletion
You can delete any contact, note, voice memo, or seedling from inside the app — it comes out of your grove immediately.
You can delete your entire account from Settings > Account > Delete Account. We remove all personal data from our live database within 30 days: profile, contacts, interactions, seedlings, and voice transcripts. Short-lived backups are overwritten on a rolling basis. We keep anonymised aggregate analytics (no PII, no contact content) and error logs for a limited time. Full details in the Privacy Policy.
9. Intellectual property
Grove — the name, logo, app, website, and everything we design and build — belongs to us. You don't get ownership by using the app, and you can't copy, modify, distribute, or resell it without our written permission.
Your content stays yours (Section 4).
10. Termination
You can stop using Grove any time; deleting your account is the cleanest way (Section 8).
We can suspend or end your access if you break these Terms (especially Sections 6 and 7), if we're legally required to, or if we shut the service down entirely — in which case we'll give reasonable notice and a way to export your data first. If we close your account for a reason that isn't your fault, email hello@findgrove.com within 30 days to request an export before we delete it.
11. Disclaimers
Grove is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee that the app will always be available, entirely bug-free, or produce any particular outcome in your life or relationships.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express, implied, and statutory — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer under your local law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Grove is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of data, relationships, business, profits, or opportunities; or emotional distress arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service.
Where local law doesn't allow these limits, our liability is limited to the greatest extent it does allow. If we're found liable, our total liability for any claim is limited to what you've paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. (During beta, Grove is free — so that amount is £0 / $0.)
13. Governing law & jurisdiction
- UK users: English and Welsh law; courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any UK consumer right to bring a claim locally.
- EU users: the law of the EU member state where you're habitually resident; you can bring a claim in the courts of that country.
- US users: the law of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Your consumer rights under local law are not affected by this section.
14. Dispute resolution (US users only)
This section applies only to US consumers.
Binding individual arbitration. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service will be resolved through binding individual arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act (9 U.S.C. §§ 1 et seq.), administered by a recognised provider (for example, the American Arbitration Association) under its then-current consumer rules. Arbitration may be remote, written, or in person in the US county where you live, at your choice. Either side may instead bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court.
Class action waiver. Claims must be brought in your individual capacity — not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, or representative action.
30-day opt-out. Email hello@findgrove.com with "Arbitration opt-out" in the subject line within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Opting out doesn't affect any other part of the Terms.
15. Changes to these Terms
Grove will change. When it does, we'll update these Terms and bump the version at the top.
- Non-material changes (typos, clarifications) take effect when published; no re-acceptance.
- Material changes (a new data category, a new sub-processor, a new processing purpose, a new jurisdiction, or anything else that changes what you agreed to) take effect only after you review and accept them. The app will prompt you at next sign-in and tell you plainly what changed.
Previous versions are kept in our repository.
16. How to reach a human
Email hello@findgrove.com. A real person on the Grove team will reply within 7 days.
- For data access, deletion, or export, put that in the subject line. We handle those within 30 days.
- For security issues, put "Security" in the subject line so we can prioritise.
- For press, partnerships, or anything else, just say hello.
